Privacy policy
Last updated: October 24, 2026
In short: SquadMeet has no accounts, ads, analytics or cookies. Video and audio go directly between your browsers, encrypted. Our server only helps the browsers find each other and stores nothing.
Who is responsible
SquadMeet is an independent project. For any privacy question, write to contacto@squadmeet.app.
What SquadMeet does with your camera and microphone
- Host: the extension (or the bookmark, or the user script) runs inside ome.tv, in your browser. When you create a group, it combines your camera with your friends' into one picture and mixes your microphones, and that is what Ome.tv sends to the stranger instead of just your camera. What happens inside Ome.tv is governed by its own privacy policy.
- Friends: the invitation page asks for camera and microphone permission and sends them to the host.
- Each friend receives from the host the picture and sound of the stranger and of the rest of the group, just as if they were looking at the host's screen.
- All of this travels over WebRTC, end-to-end encrypted between browsers (DTLS-SRTP). We record nothing and cannot see or hear your conversations.
What data goes through our servers
- Signaling: so that browsers can find each other, our server forwards some technical messages between group members: random identifiers for the group and each person, the connection description (codecs) and the network addresses needed to connect (IP addresses and ports). Friends also send the name they type (optional), their browser language and whether their phone is upright or sideways. These messages only exist in memory while the connection lasts: they are not stored or logged. If our server is unavailable (some network operators sometimes block the IPs it runs on), the same messages go through the public PeerJS server, which also only forwards them.
- Relay (TURN): if your networks don't allow a direct connection, video and audio go through a relay server run by ExpressTURN. They remain end-to-end encrypted; the server sees each end's IP address, but not the content.
- The website: squadmeet.app is served by GitHub Pages, which processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks. We don't use cookies or analytics tools.
What is stored on your device
- On ome.tv, the extension stores the panel position and, while the tab is open, the group identifier so it can be resumed if you reload.
- The invitation page stores the name you type, so you don't have to type it next time.
You can delete this at any time from your browser settings.
Purpose and legal basis
We only use this data to connect group members, which is the service you ask for by using it (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), and to keep the website secure (legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f)). We don't sell it, use it for advertising or profiling, or share it with anyone other than the providers listed here.
Providers and transfers
- GitHub, Inc. (website) and Cloudflare, Inc. (signaling, domain, contact email and relay credentials). They may process data outside the European Economic Area under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
- PeerJS (public signaling server, as a fallback only).
- ExpressTURN (relay, only when needed).
- The stores you install the extension from (Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons or Firefox Add-ons) have their own policies.
Your rights
You can request access, rectification, erasure, objection or restriction by writing to contacto@squadmeet.app. Since we don't store personal data, we will normally have nothing about you. If you think we haven't handled your request properly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es) or your local authority.
Minors
SquadMeet is for adults only (18+), the same age Ome.tv requires.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will say so on this page with a new date.
